by David Broza

/
1.
I will wait for you in an overcoat Neath a glass clock, as the hours turn and knock By the old hotel in a blue tiles bar In the long slow twilight hour I will take your hand and lead you past the trains Where the 'so longs' reign with promises to meet again As the sun dials turn you will feel my heart Burning with a churning yearn Don't you ever say "love, anything will change" While I wait for you here In a time of trains I will wait for you as the rain begins And the vision blurs while I wave and watch the flocks Set their wings and fly while a weary 'I' Wishes time would pass me by

This life is full of joys Things happen sometimes that are nice Catch the eyes of the man in the corner See his head turn twice They say I've got a star in my sky Got the world at my feet I may have things I've always wanted But something is still missing inside of me Somebody make me laugh Somebody make me cry Somebody tell me something My heart can't deny Somebody make me feel the things I can not feel alone Somebody take my heart home I've traveled journeys far and wide I've followed the setting sun I've stood in the shadows of my dreams Waiting for daylight to come I have had many of these dreams come true My life should be full, I know But I never knew how much Emptiness one lonely heart could hold Somebody make me laugh Somebody make me cry Somebody tell me something My heart can't deny Somebody make me feel the things I can not feel alone Somebody take my heart home I want to be safe and warm In love's sweet arms Where cold wind blows And the rain comes down I want everything love's ever lost To find it's way back around Somebody make me laugh Somebody make me cry Somebody tell me something My heart can't deny Somebody make me feel the things I can not feel alone Somebody take my heart home Somebody make me laugh Somebody make me cry Somebody take me way down low And raise me up high Somebody make me feel the things I can not feel alone Somebody take me Somebody take me Somebody take my heart home

I wasn't out Popping a cork Or drawing a weekend down I was waiting for you Watching the world Whirl 'round I wasn't out Selling my soul Or peddlin' flesh to blood hounds I was waiting for you Watching the world Whirl 'round I wasn't too lazy To lay in bed Or blink once In a two blink town Just one step On the sane side of crazy Don't push… I wasn't out Turning lead into gold Saying: "look, see what I've found" I was waiting for you Watching the world Whirl 'round I should make A better life With someone who knows no bounds Instead I'm waiting for you Watching the world Whirl 'round

Lullaby 04:34
Lullaby, adult and child Sink into their rest At sea the big ship sinks and dies Lead at its breast Lullaby, let nations rage Let nations fall The shadows of the crib Makes an enormous cage upon the wall Lullaby, seep on and on The war is over soon Drop that silly harmless toy And pick up the moon Lullaby, if they should say You have no sense Don’t you mind them It won't make much difference Lullaby, adult and child Sink into their sleep At sea the big ship sinks and dies Lead its breast.

When the day starts to die The light leaves the sky And the shadows fall Somethin' rises in me From an old memory And I can feel the wall When the past leaves a scar Sometimes we wander too far Trying to break free Baby when you look in my eyes Can you see through my disguise Enough to reach for me? Take me like an angel Up out of the night Take me in your arms And make time stand still Take me like an angel Into your heart tonight And do with me whatever love will They say heaven and earth Can measure love's worth By a single deed - - Is there enough light in your heart To drive out this dark? Would you cross distance for me? The days go so fast They were not meant to last But they keep haunting me The future is too near And I live with too much fear Feels like I'm falling

The Change 04:40
I read a magazine and then I was in Baltimore Walking down through the dark part of town To the factory shore I saw the water run black I felt my blood run cold But I couldn't look back 'cause I knew How cheaply my soul had been sold Those were the very first days of '92 When a man's been broken what's left to do When his lover doesn't know him And his wife's estranged Can't explain the feeling Can't accept the change I hitched a ride down south To find my little sweetie pie When I made it to her house I found the windows all boarded and the well run dry Looking down that well a crazy notion crossed my mind If I leaned over just a little, I'd be falling into hell But I'd be leaving this war behind Been to chanellers, churches, brothels and bars Spoke to drunkards, hookers and priests Tossed some pennies in fountains Consulted the stars, but the stars didn't help in the least And tonight only she Could be setting my southern soul free Where is she, where could she be?
7.
In the dirt that stains my clothing Are the ditches I've crawled through On your face: the scars of anguish Born facing down the truth You cry out for mercy You shiver in the frost But our hearts are chained to anger As in my sights you're locked Blood for blood There must be an end The nightmare unfolds Again and again Blood for blood In the hard gray dawn Revenge can't answer These wrongs Nothing is forgotten: All the history's on the shelf Nothing is forgotten: You tell me so yourself As we stand to give our witness Of the cold and bitter hand There's a killer here among us Waiting out what time he can Blood for blood There must be an end The nightmare unfolds Again and again Blood for blood In the hard gray dawn Revenge can't answer These wrongs Maybe somebody Holds the answer Maybe some love Can keep us warm Only in your eyes Only in your eyes Can I see/seek shelter from the storm I am trying to remember The book and the words But nothing comes to mind – In the end, what have we learned? Our mothers and fathers Are removed from their lands Tell me now: Where is the pity? Is it slipping through our hands? Blood for blood There must be an end The nightmare unfolds Again and again Blood for blood In the hard gray dawn Revenge can't answer These wrongs

In the beginning it's so simple In the end it's so complex Love comes with a hook Like "right now" goes with "what's next" The knot was tied tightly And the security not lax But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks In triumph we march in In tragedy we march out Love comes with a hook Like "last chance" goes with "I doubt" I though it would be perfect Or at least exact But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks I've been doing some thinking Reading without result But love comes with a hook Like heroes are followed by cults No matter how deep I dig I can't unearth one fact But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks Fever finds a forehead Weaves a tender torture of sweat Love comes with a hook Someone's last dime in someone's settled debt This night have made a better movie If it started "fade to black" But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks I swore not to go this way again I thought I'd learned But love comes with a hook Like "I'm leaving" or "I returned" I long to see her face alight Alas she turns her back But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks My friends all forgotten Oh perish the though Love comes with a hook All for one and none is naught is not I hear I heard she said what she said I wish she'd take it back But then I never loved a girl From the other side of the tracks Finally it's like any other Tossed unto the wind Love comes with a hook Maiden to rise cease to rend Go to a neutral corner And play with your jacks She brought her baggage And rode the train Stopped at a weigh station But never crossed the track
9.
That summer still haunts me Like an echo that steals through the night And rises inside me To bring back a dream A dream sealed in candlelight That tender age Before reason or regret That tender age When our lips met Oh I swear I taste it yet That tender age Morning would whisper The sun set by surprise You held out your secrets I drank them like wine They're only sweeter In the cask of time I could be lonely Staring at the stars But they are the light That glowed in our eyes I'm lifted to heaven Let the night go by
10.
You don't love me no more So you're slamming the door You've got nothing to say So I guess I won't stay Yes I know it's been long And I guess I was wrong When I left you behind But I've just changed my mind A man makes mistakes As he breaks every promise his woman keeps And a lesson he learns as he tosses and turns While his woman sleeps You don't love me anymore And to even the score You say right to may face Someone's take my place Well I know it's a lie I see that gleam in your eye And despite what you say I know you'd like me to stay Just forgive me and give me a chance to redeem Let's just dance through the night Turn out nightmares to dreams Of indulgence and passion And pleasures that last Never pausing to ponder The future or the past There's a moon on the rise I'm no good at goodbyes If I could I would stray So I'll follow the stars And the tail lights of cars You'll be cursing my name But this highway's to blame
11.
I had always hoped I'd be the first To feel the time begin to tear at us A train pulling in, stars passing on The evening says goodbye I had always hoped that we could stay In a world that could but would not change A ticket is torn, a crowd moves by Your hand is leaving mine Written there across your tired eyes Are the words I hoped you'd never say What I know you always knew Time at times can turn you on What a chance have we in listening to The echo of an old song now gone A voice is raised, a door is slammed Another night slips by And as our mirrors darken in the dawn That light of a memory has kept on Please don't say a word, your past was mine Let nothing more be heard Maybe years from now I'll start to understand The reasons why a woman turns on all she knows I see your face beneath a smoky carbon light And it's true, time's been good to you
